Thermodynamics B
Part B of the ME 2222 Thermodynamics examination advances into applied thermodynamic cycles and power
engineering. Students will apply Second Law concepts to entropy and refrigeration, analyse vapour
compression cycles, and derive the thermal efficiency of the air-standard Diesel cycle. Each question combines
a theoretical component — statement, derivation, or proof — with one or more quantitative problems that require
structured, step-by-step solutions. Part B carries a total of 30 marks and is designed to be completed in
approximately 60 minutes. Students should bring familiarity with T–S and p–V diagrams, COP relationships, and
air-standard cycle analysis
